TRIP TO TORTOSA, COSTA DAURADA, SPAIN.
Baroque Cathedral
09.10.2020
On one of my many stays in Salou Spain, i took a train ride from Salou to Tortosa . It is pleasant place ,with
history going back to Roman times. Tortosa is on the River Ebro at an altitude of 12m [ 39ft]. The population is about 33,500. It was badly damaged in the Spanish Civil War. when it fell to the Nationalists in 1938. Many lives were lost.
There is a castle , i didn't have time to visit. I did visit the Cathedral of St. Mary. Building started in 1347 and was consecrated
in 1597. It as a baroque facade, 3 Naves and Cloister. I returned to Salou by train. PLEASE NOTE i see from RENFE
timetables ,that Salou Train Station closed on 13th Jan 2020.because a new line had been built bypassing the resort town of Salou. Trains still go to Tortosa from Cambrils ,a short bus ride from Salou.
